Baymonte’s Individualized Program of Instruction (IPI) is designed to assist students who struggle or may have learning differences in the areas of reading, writing and/or spelling. The IPI program was established at Baymonte over forty years ago. We have seen amazing progress with students, many of which are in college or beyond.
Students receive 1:1 or 1:2 teacher-to-student instruction at least twice weekly. Students are often pulled out during the classroom language arts time, to ensure they won’t be missing classwork.
The Barton Reading and Spelling System, which is an Orton-Gillingham based phonics program is a multi-sensory, explicit and systematic way of teaching phonics. Our IPI instructors provide other subject area instruction as needed. We provide a place for our students to take tests who may need more time, a quieter environment, or tests read to them. We offer support with classroom assignments to our middle school students as well.
We meet with parents and teachers to develop an accommodation plan for students to ensure success in the classroom. We set up SST (Student Study Team) meetings if further collaboration is needed.
We work closely with the Scotts Valley school district to assist families with public school or outside testing if needed.
To ensure that first and second graders are progressing and maintaining grade level reading goals, we administer the Dibels (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Literacy Skills) to all first and second graders three times during the school year. We offer screening for students using the CTOPP and GORT assessments. The IPI program is subsidized by Baymonte but we do charge families a minimal cost to offset expenses: $250/month
