This year at
Baymonte Christian School we are highlighting alumni – past students who’ve
attended Baymonte, many preschool through eighth grade! Today we are
highlighting Gwendolyn Olson. Here’s what she had to say about her time at
Baymonte:
At Baymonte, every faculty member cared to know
your name and who you were. It was an intimate community and I was blessed to
grow up so well cared for in my schooling.
I remember going to the snack bar and getting
two of those giant poppy seed muffins and I would go and eat them with my dad
in his classroom during breaks. I loved being at the same school my parents
taught at. I also remember in Ms. Hofmann’s
advanced math class, we finished the curriculum early, so she told us we could
work on any project we wanted as long as it was related to math and cleared by
her. A group of us took up beginning coding in the science lab and had a blast.
Baymonte’s education prepared me well for high
school and college, but even more than that the community of that school taught
me a lot of lessons about people. I learned how to interact with people, how to
love them the way Jesus does, and how to stand up for what’s right and defend
those who can’t. The most valuable lessons I learned at Baymonte weren’t on a
test. They were shown to me again and again through the wonderful teachers and
faculty that I grew up watching. Baymonte is a special place because the
faculty not only dedicate their lives to teaching; they are also dedicated to teaching
with their lives.
Thank you for sharing Gwen!
