The ArKIDtecture elective field trip was a success! A creative group of 7 students visited Gensler Design at their San Jose offices. They were given a brief overview of the firm’s history and the exciting projects the firm is working on currently. They have 46 offices globally, including South America, India, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Australia. They just recently completed a 2000 ft. high tower in Shanghai, the second tallest spiraling structure in the world.
The architecture students had great questions for the director such as how Gensler is incorporating “green building” techniques into their designs. One of the most exciting aspects of the visit was the use of the “oculus” goggles enabling the students to virtually walk through a three dimensional space.
They visited the Gensler materials library where they were able to view and touch textural floor and wall products used to make spaces more interesting.
The students were given design swag in red Gensler bags as a parting gift.
