As we anticipate the class of 2021 concluding their high school adventure, we are celebrating Baymonte alumni and their accomplishments. Join us in prayer as they transition to the next chapter of their lives! Today’s senior highlight is Elena Bunney. Here’s what Elena said about her time at Baymonte:
“If I had to pick just one thing I enjoyed about being a student at Baymonte it would be the close connections with the caring and Christ-centered teachers and staff. Baymonte is such an amazing, tight-knit community and will forever feel like a second family. So many of my closest, lifelong friends started at Baymonte, and many of the teachers have become mentors in my life and are people I feel I could still go to for advice or prayer and encouragement.
A few of my highlights from my time at Baymonte were the field trips, spirit days, 7th grade Mexico Mission Trip, Rock-n-Water field trip, and honestly just day to day life! Going to Baymonte for 9 years allowed me to make deep connections with my peers and the memories we made will always be something I cherish.
Baymonte helped prepare me for high school both academically and spiritually. The public speaking elective and 8th grade 10-minute speech helped me immensely in my high school experience. Learning the ropes for public speaking in a safe and positive classroom environment gave me the confidence to be able to speak in front of strangers and larger groups of people. Because I had the privilege of being taught about Jesus from a young age, by the time I started high school I felt I had a strong foundation and was confident enough in my beliefs to defend them and not waver based on what other people around me did. Since Baymonte had such a positive influence on my life and helped me grow in my faith, when I started high school I knew how important it was for me to continue to seek out people who have similar values and who push me to be my best self.
One highlight/accomplishment from my time at SVHS has been working with our Green Team club! I have been able to work alongside others and implement a waste reduction program that focuses on getting sustainable alternatives for our school as well as campus beautification. This year, I have also had the opportunity to be one of the Green Team Club leaders which has been so much fun and a great experience. It has opened many new doors for me such as meeting with local community members, public speaking, designing the website, and continuing to strive to be a good steward of the Earth!
My plans for next year are to go to Cabrillo College for the first two years and then transfer to a four year afterwards. As of now, I am interested in studying environmental/political science or teaching!”
Congratulations Elena!
