On Monday, the 5th grade class had the pleasure of sailing on the Lady Washington tall ship in the Monterey Bay. The students were fully involved and got to help raise the sails and experience first hand what explorers had to do in order to traverse the Atlantic Ocean on their journey west. The class learned about navigation, trade and what challenges the explorers faced. They learned about the different parts of the ship and which ropes had which function in regards to the sail. The trip was very rich in education and the students will now be able to have a better understanding of the hardships and workload that the explorers endured on their quest to find new land and trade routes.
