Welcome to Jerrica McDermott

July 28, 2023 by Leslie Rapolla

A big Baymonte welcome to Jerrica McDermott who will be teaching Bible for some of our fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes this year!

Jerrica was born in Sacramento, CA where she was raised until leaving for college at seventeen. She studied English and Philosophy at Azusa Pacific University, where she was grateful to have such a fulfilling Christian education. While in college, Jerrica spent three of her eight semesters doing “study away” programs – two just outside of Yosemite where she developed her love of the outdoors and one at the University of Oxford in England.

After graduating college, Jerrica spent three summers working at Frontier Ranch in Scotts Valley and ultimately ended up moving to Santa Cruz permanently when she accepted a job as an Outdoor Education teacher at Mission Springs. It was there that she discovered her passion for teaching, though in hindsight, she says she knows that passion was there since she was just a little first-grader. Jerrica thought she always wanted to be an English teacher because reading is her biggest passion and hobby. However, when working with the high school group at Twin Lakes Church, she discovered that teaching Bible was what actually combined her greatest passions: teaching and Jesus.

Jerrica met her husband when they worked at Frontier Ranch together and they’ll have been married for five years this September. In July 2021, they welcomed their sweet son, Wilder, who is now a big two-year-old. Some of Jerrica’s favorite things to do either by herself or with her family are reading, knitting, drinking good coffee, playing board and card games (especially when she wins), and watching her husband and son be silly together.

We are excited to have you joining our team this year, Jerrica!
